Afrin Akhtar, Assistant Secretary of the US State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, arrived in Dhaka on a three-day visit on Monday (October 16). He will discuss matters of mutual interest during the visit.
Afrin Akhtar will also visit the Rohingya shelter camp in addition to holding various meetings in Dhaka this time.
In this visit, he will reiterate the position of the United States regarding free and fair elections in Bangladesh.
Afrin Akhtar will meet with Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen on Monday. He will visit Cox's Bazar Rohingya refugee camp on October 17 (Tuesday).
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that the US Deputy Assistant Secretary came to Bangladesh mainly to discuss two issues. One is the Rohingya issue and the other is the national elections. Apart from this, both parties will discuss matters of mutual interest.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Afrin Akhtar oversees relations with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives in the US State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
Apart from this, he is also serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Security and Internal Affairs. Earlier, he visited Dhaka last May as well.
