A six-year-old schoolboy has died after the main gate of the school fell on him in Khagrachhari.
Srabon Dewan, son of Pronoy Dewan of Narayan Khaiya Para under Khagrachhari Sadar upazila, was a pre-primary student at Khabangporiya Government Primary School.
Witnesses said the iron gate of the school fell on Srabon on Wednesday morning while he was entering the school premises with his mother.
Locals rushed Srabon to Khagrachari District Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Gobinda Chandra Ray, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sadar Police Station, said that the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) had completed the construction of the school’s main gate a year ago.
“As the gate turned vulnerable within a short time, it was kept standing with the help of wooden pillar. The school authorities didn’t take any steps to repair the gate. The gate collapsed due to faulty construction ,” added the ASI.
Contacted, Jhinu Chakma, principal of the school, didn’t agree to talk over the matter.
