No signal yet from Vikram and Pragyan: ISRO

India's Chandrayaan-3 lander 'Vikram' and rover 'Pragyan' have not received any signal, the country's space research organization 'ISRO' said.

On August 23, Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram landed on the South Pole of the Moon with rover Pragyan. After two weeks of collecting images and data, ISRO puts Vikram and Pragyan in 'sleep mode' when night falls on the lunar surface.

Indian media reported that ISRO tried to contact Vikram and Pragyan as soon as the new lunar day began. But so far no signal has been received from there.

ISRO said that the batteries of Vikram and Pragyan will start recharging and the modules will be operational again with the onset of the new lunar day on September 22. However, ISRO believes that the batteries may have been damaged due to the extreme cold of the lunar night.

In a post on social media X (formerly Twitter), ISRO said that they will continue to make every effort to contact Vikram and Pragyan.

India created history by becoming the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon. Besides, India became the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon. Earlier, the former Soviet Union, the United States and China have successfully landed spacecraft on the moon.

What happens if not active
As per ISRO's plan, if the lander and rover become active, they will collect additional data from the moon and send it back to Earth as before. If not, the lander 'Vikram' and the rover 'Pragyan' will remain on the lunar soil as India's ambassadors.
